Don't write a novel for a post

Keep post content short. The human race is naturally lazy and if you don't get their attention something else will. Most people aren't really that keen on reading an entire post anyways. I myself only skim through posts!

Write timeless content.

by Anthony

All of your content should be timeless. This post is void if you run a news blog or site. Seriously, if a search engine visitor comes to your site and they see out dated information, they will leave. If they come to your site by a search engine and see something like my content is key post, they'll be more inclined to stay at your site and continue reading.

A very good example of timeless content would be Darren Rowse's blog, Problogger. Every post he has is organized in a way to make the meaning of the content timeless.

Try a little experiment, turn off the post dates. Post dates from old dates are usually considered out of date. That is so not true.

Research your topic!

by Anthony

Do you know how embarrassing it is as a writer to have spent a long time writing an article just to find out that your stand point was wrong. Very embarrassing in my experience. You need to research anything you post before you post it. Another thing you might want to consider is leaving a list of links if the topic is informational so the readers can see where you got your knowledge from.

Wikipedia is probably not the best tool for research. I'd recommend Answers.com or the like.

Content is key.

by Anthony

Content is key. It is also gold and shiny. Seriously, without content, you have virtually nothing. Just an empty server filled with a platform like Wordpress or Blogger.

One of the things you must convey through your content is voice. Voice helps attract more readers because they know your blog is interesting when the read it. Another helpful way to brighten up your content is through the usage of bold words. Bold words stand out pretty nice against the rest of the page.

Another key factor would be style. Don't try to copy other writers style because you won't be able to. If you can, your content will suck because it'll be harder for you to write in the easiest way for you! If you have your own style though, you'll easily be able to post content with your eyes closed! (Okay, don't actually try that)

I hope these few tips will make your blogging and writing career more successful.
